Course Reflection
For the IST 659 Course Reflection, you will document your achievements using the provided worksheet. Parts of this process are designed to mimic the annual performance reviews that you will be doing professionally in your future career.
Overview
To complete the reflection, you will look back at your Proposal and document what you accomplished relative to what you proposed. You will document the challenges you experienced in this course, both internal and external. One way to assess how well you understand something is to think about what you still don’t know, so you will consider areas of possible future study. Finally, you’ll propose your course grade.
Grade Guidelines
For IST 659, use the following general guidelines to help you propose a course grade:
- For a course grade of A:
- You should have completed most of what you proposed in your Project Proposal.
- Your code or implementation should be working to a proof-of-concept level if you did a development or implementation project. If you did an evaluation or research project, then your report should be complete and well-written.
- Your documentation should be complete.
- You should have kept up with the weekly status reports.
- Generally speaking, a course grade of A implies overcoming internal and external challenges to get things finished.
- For a course grade of B or B+:
- You should have completed a substantial portion of what you proposed in your Project Proposal.
- Your code or implementation should be mostly working if you did a development or implementation project. If you did an evaluation or research project, then your report should be mostly complete and at least minimally readable.
- Your documentation should reflect what you did manage to accomplish.
- You should generally have completed the weekly status reports, although you might be missing a few.
- For a course grade of C or C+:
- You should have made some forward progress on your project and not stopped or been stuck on one small aspect.
- You should have some documentation.
- You should have completed at least half the weekly status reports.
- For a course grade below C:
- A grade of D is appropriate if you made any progress on your project.
- A grade of D+ is appropriate if you made any progress on your project and kept up with at least half the weekly status reports.
- A grade of F will be assigned if you did not make significant progress on your project, tried to do the whole project in less than 2/3 of the semester, didn’t report status, or fail to submit a Course Reflection.
