Course Plan Instructions
For this first activity, you will create a Course Plan. In the context of CSCI 311, this plan consists of a background survey about your computer and Linux experience, some questions about the course syllabus, and a few planning questions to help you approach this course.
Course Plan Worksheet
Please download the following worksheet to begin your Course Plan. To be sure your browser downloads the file instead of trying to open it, right-click the following link and choose “Save As,” “Save Link As,” or similar language from the menu. (Each browser is a little different in what wording it uses.)
IMPORTANT: If you’re also taking CSCI 435 this semester, please note that the Course Plan Worksheet for this course is different. I’ve put the course prefix and number in the filename to help avoid confusion, but please be careful about which worksheet goes with which course.
Editing the Worksheet
To the edit the Course Plan Worksheet, you need to use a word processor that can handle Microsoft Word files. I recommend LibreOffice, as it is free, open source, and does not contain invasive tracking features. However, you can also use Word Online in Office365, which the University has licensed. Be aware that Microsoft is likely collecting information about you when you use Word Online.
Select the editing instructions for the word processor program that you’re using:
Taking a Screenshot
For the Course Plan, you will need to add a screenshot of your computer’s desktop or Web browser showing that you can access the course site in Moodle. To take this screenshot, open your Web browser to Moodle and navigate to this course. See the following document for information about how to take a screenshot:
Submitting the Course Plan Worksheet
After you’ve finished editing the Course Plan Worksheet, save your work, and then export the completed worksheet to a PDF file. Instructions for exporting to PDF are provided under Editing the Worksheet, above. Upload the PDF file as the submission to the Moodle assignment activity for the Course Plan.
ABET Assessment
This activity supports the following ABET performance indicators:
- 1.2 - Analyze a complex problem by breaking it down into smaller components.
- IT 6.3 - Select systems appropriate for different user and environment requirements.
