Purpose

At the moment, TealPlay can use an existing media library but cannot manage the library on its own. In order to provide metadata about media files, TealPlay uses sidecar files, which are separate metadata files that sit alongside the audio and video files. TealPlay has a custom INI-based sidecar file format that is flexible in terms of the information it provides, but the INI files must currently be written by hand. The commonly-supported but less-flexible NFO format is also supported, and third-party applications like MediaElch can be used to edit metadata in this format.

Since it would be preferable to have TealPlay manage its own library in the future, an editor for the more flexible INI-based format would be useful. This editor would be a separate window that could be opened directly from the TealPlay library to make changes. Since the NFO format is not as easily adapted to lessons, instructional, and reference materials, supporting edits in this format has a lower priority.

Scope of Work

Design and add a metadata editor to TealPlay that uses TealPlay's native INI-based format to store information in sidecar files. This editor component should be a separate window that can be launched from within the application. If an NFO file already exists for a library item, import the data from that file and replace it with INI-based metadata. Extend TealPlay's INI format as needed to support the types of information to be stored.
