IST 620: Digital Privacy

Fall 2025

This course covers privacy issues related to information processing systems. Topics include personally identifiable information, fair information practices, fair information practice principles, privacy regulations, data breaches, and issues with the surveillance economy.

Planning Phase (8/20 - 8/27)

Discovery Phase - Group Project (8/28 - 10/1)

This course is based around a group project, which is broken into five individual Milestones. Each person in the group must take at least one turn serving as the Team Leader – a position that rotates between group members with each milestone. Details about this position, and the expectations of all members of the group, may be found in the Syllabus.

Each Milestone is DUE at 11:59 PM Eastern Time on the specified date. Although the Team Leader is responsible for submitting the Milestone report, the other members of the team should verify in Moodle that it has been submitted on time!

  1. Personally Identifiable Information - DUE September 3rd
  2. Fair Information Practices and Principles - DUE September 10th
  3. Comprehensive Privacy Regulations - DUE September 17th
  4. Targeted Privacy Regulations - DUE September 24th
  5. The Surveillance Economy - DUE October 1st
