INTRO
There is a relationship between learner personal development and performance. How a student feels about himself or herself affects achievement and other outcome variables. Although the causality of this link is still debated, scholars generally consider identity, self-concept, self-esteem, and moral reasoning as critical areas for personal development.

 

Topic Objectives
Psychosocial theories 1. Identify Erik Erikson. 2. Discuss the eight stages of Erikson's Psychosocial theory. 3. Discuss the consequences of inappropriate conflict resolution at early stages. 4. Explain the relationship between environment and individual in determining Identity. 5. Define and differentiate self-concept from self-esteem. 6. Discuss the influence of online communications technologies in adolescent or adult learner identity development.
Moral Reasoning theories 1. Define the three levels of Kholberg's theory of moral development. 2. Cite examples of learners at each level. 3. Discuss the significance of perspective to the theory. 4. Identify criticisms of Kholberg's theory. 5. Summarize Gilligan's ethic of caring theory and differentiate it from Kholberg. 6. Predict what Kholberg and Gilligan would suggest about reducing online cheating and plagiarism.
