Are you smart? In what content domains are you smart? Why and how do learners differ in their abilities?

Two related theories have emerged over the past two decades addressing these questions--Multiple Intelligence's theory and Learning Styles theory.

Each has significant implications for Educational Technology practioners, especially those who design or develop multimedia instruction.

Topic Objectives
Multiple Intelligences 1. Explain traditional "G" theories of human intelligence. 2. Discuss the contributions of Binet to the development of the IQ test, as well as standardized testing. 3. Identify the eight major intelligences in Gardner's MI theory. 4. Identify the the primary implications of MI theory for educational practice. 5. Discuss the significance of misinterpretations of MI theory in classroom instruction. 6. Identify misuses of MI theory in the design of educational technology products.

Learning Styles 1. Discuss the lack of empirical evidence supporting multiple intelligences theory. 2. Differentiate learning styles theory from multiple intelligences theory. 3. Identify the components of Kolb's Learning styles theory. 4. Identify risks of implementing LS theory into technology-rich instruction. 5.
