Waccamaw Audubon Society has a twenty-year history of activism and service to the local community.

Waccamaw Audubon Society sponsors Audubon Adventures classrooms in Horry and Georgetown S.C. Schools. Since the inception of the program Waccamaw Audubon Society has brought this valuable educational program to nearly 25,000 local 4th through 6th grade school children. If you are interested in helping to sponsor a classroom contact Amelia Wood (ameliawood@msn.com).

Each year the Scott Finlayson Memorial Scholarship funded by the Waccamaw Audubon Society allows a local school treacher to attend the Audubon Adventures for Teachers Summer Ecology Camp in Greenwich Connecticut.

Waccamaw Audubon Society also serves as the host to the annual Litchfield Beach - Pawleys Island Christmas Bird Count one of over 1700 Christmas Bird Counts counts held nationally. The Litchfield - Pawleys Island Count includes a 15-mile diameter circle centered on US Highway 17 at the gate to North Litchfield and regularly affords birders with counts of over 150 species. A complete report of the 2003 Litchfield-Pawleys Island Christmas Bird Count, one of the most successful ever, can be found at http://ww2.coastal.edu/richard/audubon/cbc2003.htm while count data for all years may be viewed at the National Audubon CBC database. Use count circle code SCLP.
