Newton's Law of Cooling

Formula derivation

1. Suppose a cold coke can taken of a refrigerator at \(38^o\)F is placed in a warm room at \(70^o\)F, and 10 minutes later the temperature of the can is \(46^o\)F.  Find the temperature 22 minutes after the can was placed into the room.  solution

 2. An object with temperature \(72^o\)F is placed outside in a cold night where the temperature is \(-20^o\)F. At 11:05 PM the temperature of the object is \(58^o\)F, and at 11:07 PM its temperature is \(50^o\)F. At what time was the object placed outside?   solution

 3. Dr Duncan is served a cup of coffee at \(175^o\)F. But he prefers to drink it at the temperature of \( 162^o\)F so he waits for 2 minutes, and finds that the temperature of the coffee is \(167^o \)F. If the temperature of the room where he is sitting is  \(70^o\)F, how long does he have to wait?   solution
