Discussion Session 3: Meiobenthos

Assignment - paper summary (via eboard; due before class on February 28th) and to discuss in class:

Read one paper (post 2001) dealing with meiofauna (also called meiobenthos) in intertidal or subtidal shelf environments.  Obtain the paper and summarize the findings in the study with respect to factors that control these populations, making note of abundance, biomass, and/or taxonomic composition of the community. Also, try to make a connection between your findings in reading the paper and something we have discussed in class concerning meiofauna

POST THE PAPER TITLE YOU CHOSE TO EBOARD AS SOON AS YOU FIND IT SO WE CAN AVOID DUPLICATION

In summarizing your paper do not copy any part of the abstract (penalty = loss of all points), but put your impression of the paper into your own words.  Also make 2-3 good quality transparencies from the paper, that you feel is especially relevant to the main point(s) that your paper is trying to emphasize. When making the transparency try to blow up the image so that it uses most of a 8.5 x 11 page so it is easy to see.  Be prepared to get up and talk for 5 min about your paper using the overhead projector.

In your presentation be sure to indicate:

1)  Where the study was done

2)  Spatial or temporal nature

3)  Nature of and mechanism(s) for variability
