Discussion Session 2:

Spatial& Temporal Variability of Benthic Microbial Communities

Read two papers from the year 2000 or more recent dealing with shallow (intertidal – continental shelf) microbial communities.

If your last name starts with the letters A – H focus on papers dealing with heterotrophic bacteria,

if letters I – P focus on benthic microalgae,

and finally if Q – Z focus on protozoans.

To prevent duplication from occurring, indicate your references on the first note that I place on the eBoard tab for Discussion 2, before you generate your summary. As others in the class begin their assignments check this note first to make sure you are not doing a paper already chosen by another student.

For your essay, generate a “Word” summary (600 words minimum) of the papers with emphasis on the nature of the variability and mechanism(s) responsible and include a full bibliographic citation of the articles at the end of the summary. If you include graphics (cut and paste) from the article within your word summary you can reference those graphics to better make your point and increase your score. This assignment must be posted to eBoard before the February 9^th class period.
