Relationships Among Some Kings in the 1850 Lawrence County Census ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- King-Yoder-Zook-Byler Family (see Rootsweb db=dottie01239 for a detailed outline of this family) Samuel King/Koenig = Anna Yoder ________________________|___________________________ | | Christian King = Elizabeth Byler Jacob King = Barbara Zook _____| _____| | | Jacob King = Mary Yoder Samuel King = Nancy Yoder ____|_____ _____| | | | Christian King Jonathan King Samuel "Shem" King Neshannock Twp Neshannock Twp Wilmington Twp hh 488 488 hh 489 489 hh 66 66 = Mattie Zook = Mary Kanagy = Nancy Zook ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- King Family from Lancaster Co., PA John King = Margaret Davidson b. New Castle returned to 1874 OH ??? This is a guess on my part as to the identity of Robert and Elias King, but I think it's a good guess. Some of this family (Hugh?) returned to Allegheny Co., PA. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- New Castle Bor., hh 129 131 Robert Wallis WM 68 Gentleman PA Mary Clendening WF 50 PA William WM 21 Doctor PA Mary WF 18 PA Philip Miller WM 26 Carriage maker PA John King WM 22 Clerk PA John P. King, b. 29 Jan 1827, s. of Samuel Z. King and Nancy Yoder (above) but he appears to have been in Ohio by 1850 John King, b. 22 Oct 1829, s. of Jacob King and Mary Yoder (above) John James King, b. 6 Oct 1828 in McKean Co., PA, s. of John King and Hannah Clendenon, his first wife said to be Rebecca Plank However, I cannot connect the two Clendenon families! Mary Clendening above was no doubt Mary Wallace, b.c.1800 PA, who married William Clendenin, b.c.1785 and their children: Elizabeth (b.c.1820), Robert Wallace (b.c.1823), Isabella (b.c.1826), William (b.c.1830), and Mary (b.c.1833). Hannah Clendenon, wife of John King, was b. 3 Mar 1789 in Chester Co., PA, mar. John King (b.1784 in England) 1817. She was dau. of Robert Clendenon and Elizabeth Battin. I cannot connect the two families. There was a prominent Robert Wallace of Washington Co., PA, who was b.c.1782, and who apparently moved to Beaver/Lawrence Co. (or at least had descendants there), but I cannot connect him to the above Robert. Another Wallace family apparently came from Lancaster Co., PA, at an early date. Their history is briefly described in History of Lawrence County Pennsylvania, 1770 - 1877, by S.W. and P.A. Durant, p. 185. No matter anyway, since John, s. of John King and Hannah Clendenon, was apparently still in McKean Co. in the 1850 census. (That was easy enough!) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- William King, miller, in North Slipperyrock Twp., hh 246 246 This family vanished like a puff of smoke in the 1860 census, but I am coming to the conclusion that the censuses missed a lot of people back in those days. Not to mention the census collection at ancestry.com is known not be incomplete and the indexes are often downright whacky! However, this family showed up again in Worth Twp., Mercer Co., PA, in 1870. At that time William's age was given as 64 and Lucy's as 58. Could this be William, s. of Marinus King? I believe this family was in Shenango Twp., Mercer Co., PA, in 1840. NO! Wm son of Marinus King was in Iowa in 1850! Marinos and Margaret King (ages 9 and 4 respectively), in the hh of Andrew Raughmer, hh 556 556, Neshannock Twp., were apparently also descendants of Marinus King. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Columbus King of New Castle Bor., hh 31 31, totally vanishes in later censuses. My guess is he died and his wife remarried. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Henry King, shoemaker, Pulaski Twp., hh 209 212. I can't place him. Jemima Cotton, age 20, in the household, was apparently the daughter of William Cotton, Jr., and Elizabeth Black, descendants of very early settlers in this area. Jemima had an aunt named Rachel Cotton, b.c. 1805. Could this be Henry's wife? She is said to have married James Bredin/Braden in some sources, and one source says she died 1862. Eh, Rootsweb databases are notoriously inaccurate, so I leave the question open. Henry and family were apparently in Mahoning Twp., Mercer Co., PA, in 1840. =============================================================================== Please note that almost all these data are from Rootsweb databases and have not been confirmed by me.
