Dionaea muscipula (Venus fly trap). Charles Darwin in 1873 described this as "the most wonderful plant in the world" and I tend to agree. "In many undisturbed areas, particularly in Brunswick, New Hanover, Bladen, Onslow, and Carteret Counties in North Carolina and in Horry County in South Carolina, great numbers of plants are present over wide stretches of land which are not likely to be used in development." (Roberts and Oosting 1958). Roberts and Oosting got the endemic range right, but their prediction about development was far off the mark. This species is rapidly being extirpated from most areas outside of nature preserves. Mouseover to get different effects.
