Welcome

I began this portfolio after completing an ABET training program. As an ABET IDEAL Scholar, I am now living and breathing assessment in a ways I've never even dreamed. The best thing I've learned is that if I seriously (and in an organized way) assess myself and my class, I will be able to improve what I do. This will be beneficial, not only to me, but to my students as well.

I've been teaching undergraduate courses since 2001, when I joined Coastal Carolina University. I've also taught for Nova Southeastern University and Champlain College - both on the graduate level. I've taught classes to all types of majors from education to business to computer science and everything in between.

One thing I've learned is to never gripe about teaching a survey or non-majors class. Those are the classes where you can reach out to students you would not normally have the opportunity to teach. This thought process was validated when two of my former (non-major) students changed majors to computer science.

I think a good teacher is really a good student at the same time. As teachers, we should always continue our efforts to learn. Some say those who can't do teach, but I say that not everybody can be a good teacher. I strive to motivate and be the best teacher I can. I want to be part of my students' sucess stories!
