Fran Boden has come home to small-town Alabama to bury her mother, missing for 30 years. But the discovery of Dosie Boden’s bones in a dried-up river bed means more than a funeral and investigation; it means reviving disturbed spirits thought long gone.

When Fran begins to lose touch with reality, know things she couldn’t, and have frightening episodes, her Aunt Matilda, a retired physician, suspects mental illness, an affliction that tormented Fran’s deceased father, Ray. But in this southern-gothic ghost story, the cause of her derangement proves to be far more unnatural, and Fran might not find her way back to the light.
