Q: I missed the first two lectures. Did I miss anything important?
A: First thing you want to do is visit this website: 10 things you should never say or do to your professor. The list is from Clemson's excellent college survival skills website. The handouts I gave on the first day (there are three, including the syllabus), can be picked up from my office, SCI 127. They're in an envelope on the corkboard outside my door. The syllabus is also downloadable - see above under handouts. Check with a classmate for notes on what we covered in the lectures you missed.
Q: I noticed the syllabus didn't have dates when each chapter was due. How do we know when we should read each chapter?
A: Just come to class. I will make clear when we are starting a new chapter, and when you should read ahead.
